A 22-year-old Montana man has pleaded not guilty to charges that allege he beat three women with a frying pan, killing one of them. James Isiah Brien of Hardin was arraigned in District Court Tuesday on a charge of deliberate homicide and two counts of assault with a weapon. Prosecutors say Brien beat the women on Feb. 8 in Hardin. One of the women died on Feb. 24.

A Winston-Salem man is being held on $1 million bail for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl last summer. Joseph Mashack, 39, is charged with first-degree statutory rape, two counts of first-degree statutory sexual offense and three counts of indecent liberties with a child.
Police have identified the man found dead outside a burning Chesterfield home. James W. Smith Jr., 44, appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a Chesterfield Police spokesperson said. Smith was the man whose welfare police had responded to check.
A police chase spanning several cities turned into a three-hour standoff Tuesday night. The chase started at 10:40 p.m. in Northfield, Ohio and lasted nearly an hour before police from multiple departments were able to stop the car shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Route 82 in Broadview Heights.

A 33-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday after North Las Vegas police said she carried a pickax onto a school campus and threatened children while they were at lunch. Police said just before noon, a resident near Tom Williams Elementary School, located at 3000 E. Tonopah Ave., called police regarding a woman who was carrying a pickax as she was climbing over the school's chain link fence. 250 children were outside at the time.
A suspected violent criminal was found Tuesday in Belleville and taken into custody, the U.S. Marshals Service said. Tyrone Brooks, 18, of Ypsilanti, was arrested without incident at 3 p.m. Tuesday, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Watson. Brooks has been charged in a six-count felony warrant, he said.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports Minnie Maye Riley died Sunday at Akron Children’s Hospital from a suspected overdose. A 12-year-old Killeen ISD middle school student has been arrested for making terroristic threats against schools after an investigation by authorities. Killeen ISD Superintendent John Craft says the student was arrested overnight. Craft says the Roy J. Smith Middle School student made a series of threats in social media postings this week.

A man who Ithaca Police say was responsible for Monday night’s armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver was arrested Tuesday night after barricading himself in a home on west hill, according to IPD. IPD said late Monday night that a Domino’s Pizza delivery driver was robbed by a man who displayed a small handgun, and the suspect fired into the roadway. Officers had responded at 8:55pm to the incident scene on the 400 block of Elm Street on Ithaca’s west hill.
Three men have been charged after police said a woman was robbed at gunpoint downtown Tuesday. Police said the woman was in a car in the first block of West Wacker Drive when at about 2:17 p.m., the suspects opened the passenger side door of her car. The suspect's demanded the woman's property and fled on foot with her cell phone and necklace.
An armed robbery at a fast-food restaurant in Danvers is under investigation. The incident happened at a Burger King at 184 Endicott St., according to police. No one was injured. Police are searching for the assailant.

A Coeur d’Alene Police officer was shot in the line of duty and underwent surgery late Tuesday night. Coeur d’Alene Police Chief Lee White said Coeur d'Alene Police stopped an individual near the intersection of Government Way and Hattie Avenue around 7:00 p.m. At some point during the stop, the officers learned the suspect had a felony warrant for his arrest. When officers approached the suspect, White said the suspect engaged the officers with gunfire.
A homicide investigation is underway after a fatal shooting Tuesday night in Clarksville and a named suspect is sought. It happened about 10:23 p.m. at 1232 Paradise Hill Road, according to a news release from Clarksville Police, which says a 41-year old male victim was shot multiple times and was pronounced deceased at Tennova Health Hospital.

A 17-year-old boy was shot Tuesday afternoon in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the South Side. The boy was standing on a sidewalk about 2:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of South Oakley when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired a shot, according to Chicago Police.
A man was stabbed early Wednesday in the the Loop. The 39-year-old man was stabbed in the arm when a fight with someone he knew turned physical about 12:30 a.m. in the 400 block of South Clark, Chicago Police said.
Two men were critically wounded in a shooting Tuesday night in the Old Town neighborhood on the Near North Side. The men, ages 23 and 24, were walking about 8:20 p.m. in the 400 block of West Blackhawk when they heard gunfire and realized they’d been shot, according to Chicago Police. The younger man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body, while the older man was shot in the upper left leg and right arm.

Authorities say a man who posed as a driver for ride-hailing companies has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting seven women over a 15-month period in Los Angeles County. The district attorney’s office says Nicolas Morales faces 27 charges including nine counts of forcible oral copulation and six counts of rape. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. It wasn’t immediately known if the 44-year-old has an attorney.

A teenager in Fort Dodge has been arrested after allegedly making threats on social media. Police were made aware of possible online threats early Tuesday afternoon. Officials say multiple students in the Fort Dodge Community School District were talking about participating in a school shooting. After identifying the students involved, school resource officers and staff contacted the individuals at the district’s high school and middle school

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene of a shooting in Franklin Township. Deputies were called to a home Tuesday morning in the 1800 block of Little Avenue just before 10 a.m. According to the Sheriff's Office, two people are dead in the shooting.
